  1. The Baliem Valley is a valley located in the Jayawijaya Mountains
The Baliem Valley is a valley located in the Jayawijaya Mountains. The Baliem Valley is situated at an altitude of 1600 meters above sea level, surrounded by mountains with breathtaking and pristine scenery. The temperature can drop to 10-15 degrees Celsius at night. This valley is also known as the Grand Baliem Valley and is home to the Dani tribe, located in Wosilimo Village, 27 km from Wamena, Papua. In addition to the Dani tribe, other tribes such as the Yali and Lani tribes also live in this valley. The valley is approximately 80 km long and 20 km wide, situated at an altitude of around 1,600-1,700 meters, with a population of around 100,000 people.
The discovery of the Baliem Valley and the unexpected presence of a large agricultural population was made by the third zoological expedition of Richard Archbold to New Guinea in 1938. On June 21st, a reconnaissance flight from Hollandia (now Jayapura) discovered what the expedition called the ‘Grand Valley’. Gradually, the valley has since been opened to limited tourism, with the existence of the Baliem Valley Festival.
